Overview

Tocllaraju is a beautiful and challenging mountain that remains accessible to new climbers, the Tocllaraju expedition takes you to one of the biggest and most spectacular mountains in the Cordillera Blanca.

The mountain stands an incredible 6,034m high. However, Tocllaraju is unique as it’s one of the few mountains in the world where you can reach heights of over 6,000m without prior experience or technical skills.

All that is required is a good level of fitness and the mental resilience to climb mountains. If you are yet to experience high altitude climbing, the Tocllaraju expedition is for you.

Itinerary

Day 1: Huaraz – Ishinca valley – Base camp
From Huaraz we are going on a private transport to the Pashpa or Willak Community, Andean villages where start our trail to the Ishinca valley, walking aprox. 3-4 hours to the base camp in a amazing place.

Day 2: Base Camp – Morraine Camp
We will hike a zigzag trail for four hours until we reach 5100m, where we set up camp down the Tocllaraju glacier.

Day 3: Morraine Camp – Tocllaraju summit – Base Camp
We will start the ascent at 1am along a large glacier until we get to the first 50m wall (55-65°). After climbing it, we will reach a ridge with views of the Callejon de Conchucos. We will carry on to the summit where we will be rewarded with a splendid view. In the afternoon, we will descend to base camp. Approx. 6 to 7 hours.

Day 4: Base Camp – Pashpa – Huaraz
On the last day we will go on an easy trail to go back to Pashpa or Willak and return to Huaraz with our private vehicle. Approx. 3 ½ hours.

This is the materials that you need for our expeditions

Mountain climbing gear:

  • 2 technical ice axes
  • Mountain climbing boots
  • Harness
  • Helmet
  • Waterproof pant
  • Waterproof jacket
  • First layer clothes
  • climbing gloves
  • Crampons
  • Carabines and ATC or rapel dispositive.
  • One Bagpack ( 50 to 70 litres is going with the donkey) and one daybag (20 to 35
    litres)*
    * We will walk only with the daybag, carring our energy bars, water and personal things.
  • Shoes trekking ( comfortable ) like boots.
  • 2 pants minimun, preference this materials: ( nylon – polyamide – soft cotton)
  • Minimum 4 changes of t-shirt (polyamide – cotton – wool)
  • Minimum 4 changes of socks (cotton -wool)
  • Raining jacket ( nylon – polyamide – gore tex )
  • Waterproof climbing pant.
  • One polar o sweater.
  • Flash light
  • Sun cap
  • Gloves and wool cap ( chullo)
  • Sleeping bag ( 5 to -10)

Prices

  • Tocllaraju Expedition: USD All included.
  • All the Information is for a private expedition.
  • All the information addressed in this itinerary is an approximation that
    could vary according to the weather, social protests (blocking of roads),
    physical condition of the client, etc.

How to book

A deposit of 30% must be made to confirm the reservation;
The balance must be paid in dollars or soles (local currency). The total payment must be made no later than 1 day before the start of the trek. In case of non-payment of the balance within the given time, Hidden Perú reserves the right to cancel the reservation. The deposit previously paid and invested in the preparation of the trek are not refundable.
The balance settled, no refund is possible because the final budget of the entire trek is definitely invested.

Important notes

It may be that changes happen the day before or the day of departure. It is depending on the bad weather, the state of the roads and strikes likely to disturb the organization of the hike or to make it dangerous. In these circumstances, Hidden Perú offers you an alternative: either dates or different circuits.
Travellers have an obligation to inform us of their state of health and must bring their own medicines.
