Overview

Artesonraju Mountain is one of the famous peak in the Cordillera Blanca, the North ridge is also very popular for the image of the “Paramount film company”, the stylized pyramidal shape of the mountain seen from the north side is one of the most famous images in the world.

The expedition that we made to Artesonraju is a challenge and a great experience in the Peruvian Andes.

Itinerary

Day 1: HUARAZ – LLAMACORRAL:
Drive from Huaraz to Caraz and then to Cashapampa to meet our Horseman and give our equipment and start our trek to Llamacorral in the Santa Cruz valley.

Day 2: LLAMACORRAL – BASE CAMP:
We continue our trek in the Santa Cruz valley to arrive our base camp and rest.

Day 3: BASE CAMP – HIGH CAMP:
We leave our base camp to the high camp and prepare all our equipment and rest to climb the next day.

Day 4: ARTESONRAJU MOUNTAIN CLIMB:
Start very early and climb our route, will be a long day climbing and descend to our high camp, if is possible descend to the base camp.

Day 5: BASE CAMP – HUARAZ:
Descend into the Santa Cruz valley to Cashapampa and return to Huaraz.

Mountain climbing gear:

  • 2 technical ice axes
  • Mountain climbing boots
  • Harness
  • Helmet
  • Waterproof pant
  • Waterproof jacket
  • First layer clothes
  • climbing gloves
  • Crampons
  • Carabines and ATC or rapel dispositive.
  • One Bagpack ( 50 to 70 litres is going with the donkey) and one daybag (20 to 35
    litres)*
    * We will walk only with the daybag, carring our energy bars, water and personal things.
  • Shoes trekking ( comfortable ) like boots.
  • 2 pants minimun, preference this materials: ( nylon – polyamide – soft cotton)
  • Minimum 4 changes of t-shirt (polyamide – cotton – wool)
  • Minimum 4 changes of socks (cotton -wool)
  • Raining jacket ( nylon – polyamide – gore tex )
  • Waterproof climbing pant.
  • One polar o sweater.
  • Flash light
  • Sun cap
  • Gloves and wool cap ( chullo)
  • Sleeping bag ( 5 to -10)

  • Repellent for mosquitos.

Prices

Artesonraju Expedition:

  • All the Information is for a private expedition.

  • All the information addressed in this itinerary is an approximation that could vary according to the weather, social protests (blocking of roads), physical condition of the client, etc.

How to book

A deposit of 30% must be made to confirm the reservation;
The balance must be paid in dollars or soles (local currency). The total payment must be made no later than 1 day before the start of the trek. In case of non-payment of the balance within the given time, Hidden Peru reserves the right to cancel the reservation. The deposit previously paid and invested in the preparation of the trek are not refundable. The balance settled, no refund is possible because the final budget of the entire trek is
definitely invested.

Important notes

It may be that changes happen the day before or the day of departure. It is depending on the bad weather, the state of the roads and strikes likely to disturb the organization of the hike or to make it dangerous. In these circumstances, Hidden Peru offers you an alternative: either dates or different circuits.
